Mr. James W. Thompson, aged 72, a resident of Tarentum for the past 31 years, is dead at his late home, 133 Second avenue, dissolution occurring at 9 o'clock last night after a lingering illness of seven month. About one week ago, he was taken with an attack of asthma, from which he passed away last evening with the family at his bedside. He was born in East Deer township in 1840, at which place he resided for forty years. During the Civil war he was enrolled as a private in Company E, 78th regiment, Pennsylvania volunteers.
August 13, 1866, Mr. and Mrs. Thompson were married in Allegheny and resided in East Deer township until 1881, when they located in Tarentum. During the 31 years he has resided here, the deceased won the acquaintance of a large circle of friends, all of whom were grieved to learn of his death. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ellen Thompson; one son, James O., of Tarentum; five daughters, Mrs. Mary McGeary, Mrs. Margaret Hatch, Mrs. Etta Daum, Mrs. Alice Stump, of Tarentum; Mrs. Sarah Southward, of Rossford, Ohio; also 19 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Two funeral services will be held from the home Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock conducted by Rev. H.H. Kendall of the Reformed Presbyterian church. Interment in Prospect cemetery.
