William Duane Briggs, Sr. died October 5, 2009 in Zephyrhills Florida following a brief illness.

Mr. Briggs was born May 20,1919 on the Gilman Hill Road in the Town of Henderson,a son of Iva M. Carpenter and Charles B. Briggs, Sr. He was educated in the local schools and entered the United States Army January 1945. He served in the Philippine Islands and was discharged from the 67th Fighter Squadron, 18th Fighter Group of the 13th Army Air Force December 1946.

Mr. Briggs was married to Rosalind V. Kemmerer April 6, 1947 in the Community Church at Orwell New York. He was a member of the Henderson Universalist Church, having served as a deacon. A talented woodworker, his main interests were his family, farm, and friends. He was active in the Carpenter Family Reunion.

He worked for a number of years for the Thousand Islands New York State Park Commission prior to operating his dairy farm in the Town of Henderson. After retirement, he and his wife spent almost 14 years traveling the US and Canada, finally settling in Zephyrhills FL. His body has been cremated and no memorial service is scheduled..

Mr. Briggs is survived by his wife, a daughter Victoria Elmer, Adams NY, sons William D. Jr. [Laurie] Henderson, David W. [Linda] Charles Town WV, Douglas B. [Elizabeth] Mohawk NY, Darryl A. New York, Stephen M.[Angie] Shirley MA, Philip M. Syracuse NY, Stuart C. [Cheryl] Lockport NY. He is also survived by one sister Bessie Eastman [Richard] and one brother Maurice H.[Doris] Henderson NY, 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, a stepmother Theresa Briggs, a half-brother Paul Briggs, and a half-sister Karen Briggs Watertown NY, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.. A brother Charles B. Briggs, Jr. predeceased him.
