John was the son of George R. Dabney and A. Louisa Waitmen

John moved to Cimarron Valley, NM when he was 16 years of age.

His first marriage was to Margaret Acock in 1907. She preceded him in death in 1911. They had two daughters: Mrs. Walter (Nettie) Richardson and Mary Lou Baugham.

His second marriage was to Maude Nancy Grey on July 5, 1912. They had 6 children: Mrs. Mike (Lulia) Workman and their 5 sons: Joe G., Jack A., James M., Robert C., and Bill Lee who passed away when he was 1 year old.

He is survived by wife and children and by 2 sisters: Mrs. Lillie Smith, Llano, TX and Mrs. Selma White, Kerrville, TX.
