Alford Bell Sellers Jr., 70, recognized as the city of Smyrna's first police patrolman, died Friday night, Oct. 28, at Middle Tennessee Medical Center.

Services for Sellers, who was a member of the Church of Christ and former owner of Bell's Tire in Smyrna, were held at 2 p.m. today at the Smyrna Woodfin Chapel with Tim Lavender officiating. Burial was in Mapleview Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Susie Louise Gann Sellers who died in 1978, and his sister, Geneva Warrick.

Survivors include six daughters, Patricia Hickman, Thelma Van Meter, Lisa Hickman and Annette Bowen, all of Murfreesboro, Linda Worthem of Smyrna, and Bridgette Varden of Wetumpka, Ala.; a son, Alford "Bubba" Sellers Jr. of Smyrna; three brothers, James Sellers of Smyrna, Bob Sellers of La Vergne and Earl Sellers of Nashville; two half-sisters, Fanna Lou and Nellie of Nashville; 22 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
