Chester "Check" Harrell, 81, Bardstown, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009, at Flaget Memorial Hospital, Bardstown. He was a native of Nelson County, a former employee of George Eady Construction Company, a farmer, a member of the First Cedar Creek Baptist Church and was a U.S. World War II Army veteran.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Catherine Harrell; his parents, Johnnie Elmer and Laura Ellen Case Harrell, his stepmother, Della Harrell, six brothers, Elmer Harrell, Buddy Harrell, Bobby Harrell, Randall Harrell, Dalton Harrell and Joe Harrell; a sister, Agnes "Sissy" Wooden; and a stepsister, Mary E. Riggs.

Survivors include three daughters, JoAnn Simpson, Sandy Harrell and Barbara (Tim) Leake, all of Bardstown; three sons, Roger Harrell, Bardstown, Gary (Sue) Harrell, Sturgis, Mich., and Kenny (Kim) Harrell, Bardstown; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Clarence Harrell, Bardstown, Lawrence (Mildred) Harrell, Louisville, and Carl Harrell, Bardstown, two sisters, Lill (Bill) Thompson, Bloomfield, and Katie Barnes, Bardstown; and his former wife, Mary Elizabeth Harrell, Bardstown.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Greenwell-Houghlin Northside Funeral Home with burial in Bardstown Cemetery with military honors provided by the Marion County Honor Guard. Brother Doug Lutes will officiate.

Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Greenwell-Houghlin Northside Funeral Home, a member of the International Order of the Golden Rule, is in charge of arrangements.
