The mill and canal was later sold to John Morehead who built the textile mill complex and the area eventually grew into the town of Spray which is now Eden,N.C. The canal is still in use today producing electricty.
John Barnett sold part of the land to his nephew and son-in-law William Barnett, who is also buried in the Barnett Cemetery.
