Hannah Atkinson was born in Yorkshire, England, shortly before her parents (Henry and Hannah Walkington Atkinson) and siblings (Lavinia and Mary Ann), sailed for America. Her Death Certificate states she was born in 1833 - her stone bears the etching of 1832.

She never married as her sweetheart- John W.H. Edwards died in the Civil War. "There would be no other" Hannah loved her flowers and won many awards at the County Fair. In her later years, she was cared for by nephew Thomas Ward and his wife Virgina Barrette Ward and later by niece & nephew - Oscar & Emily Mabel Ward Lower.
