Enlisted in Company A, 6th Alabama Infantry Regiment on 11 May 1861 at Abbeville, Alabama by A. C. Gordon for 12 months, mustard out on the 16th as a private, and was promoted to 1st Sergeant of Company K. Stephen was killed at Sharpsburg, Maryland, on 17 Sep 1862.


A claim for settlement was filed by his father, George P. Kincey, on August 11, 1863, for 1st Sgt. Stephen G. Kincey, Company K, who left neither wife or child.
