Former Mobile Christian baseball coach Randy Robbins died Monday.
Robbins, 45, served as the school's varsity baseball coach from 2004-05. His 2004 squad finished as the AISA Class AAA
runner-up, and he was named the AISA Coach of the Year by the Alabama Sports Writers Association. He also coached middle school and junior varsity baseball at the school.
"It's affected our campus very much," said Joey Adams, the dean of students and basketball coach at Mobile Christian. "We still have quite a few students who played for Coach Robbins, whether it was middle school, junior varsity or varsity, and his son graduated just last year. He was very connected to our school. It's a very sad time for our school."
Robbins, nicknamed "Coach," was a native and resident of Mobile.
Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Lynn Robbins; two sons, Randy Robbins Jr. and Jacob Robbins; and his parents, Bobby and Leona Robbins, all of Mobile; two brothers, Andy Robbins of Mobile and Daryl Robbins of Semmes; and his grandmother, Inez Reid of Tuscaloosa.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Dayspring Baptist Church, where another visitation will be Friday from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral. Burial will be in Valhalla Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Ascension Funeral Service on Hillcrest Road.
Memorials may be made to the Dayspring Baptist Church Homeless Ministries, 2200 Cody Road South, Mobile, AL 36695.
