Sharon Hanson Hewitt, 64, of Hacienda Heights, California, died July 6, 2001 following a brief illness. Graveside services were held today (Wednesday, July 11) at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, California.
Sharon Hewitt was born January 27, 1937 in Iowa City, Iowa to Dale R. and Lucille (Clark) Hanson. A 1955 Winterset High School graduate, she attended Simpson College and graduated from the University of Iowa. She was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. In 1958 she married Robert Dean Hewitt. Sharon also received two master's degrees in education from Pepperdine University in California and for 35 years taught special education in the Bassett School District in West Covina, California. She retired in 1997. She is a descendant of the Clark family of Madison County (for which Clark Tower is named). Sharon's mother, Lucille, had been employed with the Madisonian newspaper for 55 years. Her grandfather, Walter Clark, also worked for the Madisonian for over 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a sister. She is survived by two nieces, Joni Kuhns Summerfield of Manteca, California and Jayne E. Kuhns of Castro Valley, California, and a grandnephew. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Madison County Historical Society.
