Son of Miner Swick (B. 20 Jul 1837, Hillsdale, Michigan, D. 22 Aug 1915, Benton County, Oregon) and Cerinda Stewart Swick (B. 18 Mar 1845 Polk County, Oregon, D. 6 Mar 1911, Benton County, Oregon), formerly of Corvallis, Benton, Oregon in 1880. Cerinda was the daughter of John H Stewart (1799-1885) and Mary Polly Scott (1821-1913). Miner and Cerinda were married 28 Dec 1865 in Benton County Oregon. Miner and Cerinda had a total of 5 children: John M (1870-1956), Charles G (1874-1890), Frank (1879-), Scott S (1882-1890),and George I (1884-1890). Charles, Scott and George all died within a 11 day period in 1890 and are buried in the Swick Cemetery, Grant, Oregon.

Based on a review of of the Grant County newspaper. (Canyon City, Or.) July 31, 1890, Image 3 (Upper left column), an outbreak of the dreaded disease Diphtheria was reported prevalent on the upper South Fork of John Day River in late July 1890 with several deaths. The South Fork would include the Izee and Suplee areas of Grant County where the cemetery is located was probably the cause of his death along with his brothers.
