John Lee Hall, Sr. of Ridgecrest, CA passed away 17 Sep 2009.
John was born September 1932 in Leoti, KS to Walter Edward Hall and Ivry Lea Harkness. He spent much of his childhood in Stafford and Sylvia, KS and was a member of the graduating class of Stafford High School Class of 1950.
He served in the U S Army during the Korean War at both Fort Riley, KS and Fort Carson, CO.
On 2 Aug 1952 he married Mary Etta Wilcox in Wichita, KS. They were blessed with two children, John, Jr., born 24 Jun 1958 and Lisa, born 29 Jul 1960.
John spent much of his life working with his hands as a Cable Splicer, Electrician and Welder, originally for Mountain Bell Phone Company, after which he was employed throughout the US on the installation of the Minute Men Missile System. In the mid 1960's, he had the honor participating in the construction of the Kennedy Space Center Facilities, during the time of the first Apollo missions. He made his way to California, where he worked on the second California Aqueduct and began property development in Ridgecrest and other areas. He spent the remainder of his life as an accomplished businessman and real estate entrepreneur.
John had an adventurous spirit and spent his life enjoying many hobbies including competitive boat racing and water skiing in the early 1950's, motorcycle riding and scuba diving. He became an accomplished pilot at an early age and obtained multiple ratings, after which he traveled the US including Alaska, where he spent many summers flying and fishing. John was a well known figure about town, easily recognized by his signature bib overalls and cap. He carried his Midwest heritage throughout life, which was evident in his love of farming and people, and down home friendliness. He was affectionately known as 'Farmer John' to children and adults, many of whom had visited his pumpkin patch and pecan orchard in Inyokern, CA. John was committed to showing charity to his fellow man. He regularly gave of his time, talents and whatever means he was able to help those who were struggling. His pleasure in life was knowing that he was able to be of assistance to those in need. John's favorite quote was "families are forever".
John is survived by his wife, his 2 children; his 5 grandchildren; his daughter-in-law and grandson-in-law; his 4 siblings.
