Susan Dian Holcomb, 54, passed away September 30, 2007 at Boone Hospital in Columbia, MO of ovarian cancer.
Susan was born in Kirksville, MO, on October 6, 1952.
Susan enjoyed working with wood, quilting and western movies. She also loved fishing and hunting with her husband. She loved being around her family and was a great wife, mother and grandmother.
She leaves behind her husband, William Holcomb of 10 years; her seven sons, Daniel and Denise Ferdig of Lancaster, MO, Steven Downing of Queen City, MO, John Downing of Queen City, MO, Tom and Lois Shoop of Chillicothe, MO, Michael and Lori Holcomb of Brashear, MO, Billy and Steph Holcomb of Glenwood, MO, and Benjamin Holcomb of Mattoon, IL; nine grandchildren, Amy Parmer and Stacy Chuites, both of Cedar Rapids, IA, Daniel Ferdig and Feather Ferdig, both of Lancaster, MO, Ian Holcomb and Phenix Holcomb, both of Glenwood, MO, Isaiah Brownlee of Keokuk, IA, Jacob Holcomb and Cory Holcomb, both of Brashear, MO; four great–grandchildren, Raelynn and Jaydon Chuites, and Colton and Kylie Parmer, all of Cedar Rapids, IA; 12 brothers and sisters, Merdell Long of Queen City, MO, Martin Ferdig of Queen City, MO, Carol Jean Nolan of Chariton, IA, Lillie Swearingin of Queen City, MO, Nancy McCallum of Lancaster, MO, Patsy Evans, of Anamosa, IA, Charles Ferdig of Lancaster, MO, Carl Ferdig of Purdin, MO, Steven Ferdig of Kahoka, MO, Janet Shilling of Bloomfield, IA, Sandra Williams of Buckner, MO, and Fred Ferdig of Luray, MO. Susan had six brothers-in-law, five sisters-in-law, 26 nieces, 20 nephews, 32 great-nieces, 38 great-nephews, three great-great-nieces, and five great-great-nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Merna and Melvin Ferdig; one brother, Marvin Ferdig; a niece, Latisha Robinson; a nephew, Bobby Nolan; a great-niece, Crystal Nolan; a great-nephew, Blaze Chuites; grandmother, Julano Miller; and grandparents, Fred and Lillie Ferdig and Thomas and Lizzie Smith.
Graveside services were held October 4, 2007 at the Arni Memorial Cemetery in Lancaster, MO with Sonny Smyser, pastor of the Lancaster United Methodist Church officiating. Pallbearers were Scooter Chuites, Buba Shilling, Jeremy Ferdig, John John Shilling, Fred Ferdig and Marty Ferdig. Honorary pallbearers were Eugene Chuites, Christopher Robinson, Pat Berdan, Bill Berdan and David McCallum. Memorials have been established for the family. Arrangements were under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, MO.
