Graveside services for Buford R. Baker, 88, of Attalla, will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010, at Duck River Cemetery, the Rev. Kevin Norton officiating.
Village Chapel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Gadsden (256-547-5557) is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Baker died Monday, Aug. 9. He was a veteran of World War II. He was with one of the first planes to drop airborne division troops into Normandy on D-Day. He retired from OK Rubber Welders after 25 years of service. He also worked at Vann Express in Attalla.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Paula Allen.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Louise Baker; a son, Kenneth (Joy) Baker of Attalla; three grandsons, Kevin Norton of Trion, Ga., Tracy (Alana) Norton of Boaz and Jeremy Baker of Attalla; and three great-grandsons, Zack, Kiran and Wesley Norton.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth and Jeremy Baker, Kevin, Tracy, Zack and Herman Norton.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
