James Earl Peeler, 78, of Englewood, died Sunday evening, October 4, 2009 at Woods Memorial Hospital.

A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late Joe and Anna Belle Daugherty Peeler. He was a member of the Englewood First Church of God, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by an infant brother.

Survivors include his wife, Edna Peeler of Englewood; one son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Vickie Peeler of Ringgold, GA.; one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Richard Prater of Fredericktown, OH.; four grandchildren, Lt. Matthew Peeler (Lisa) USCG of Lumberton, TX, Angie Wilson of Ringgold, GA, Amber Hawkins (Jake) of Mt. Vernon, OH, and Eric Prater of Fredericktown, OH; four great-grandchildren, Logan Peeler of Ringgold, GA, Elizabeth Peeler of Lumberton, TX, Chloe Wilson of Ringgold, GA and Abby Peeler of Lumberton, TX; three brothers, Tom Peeler of Greenback, Bud Peeler of Englewood and Ray Peeler of Benton; two sisters, Pat Brown and Myrtle Vaughn, both of Englewood; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Ernest and Mae Moses of Englewood; and special nurses, Treva Gourley and all nurses' aides with Caris Health Care.

Funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 7, 2009 in the South Chapel with Pastor Kevin Cummins and Layspeaker Richard Prater officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service.

Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 8th and proceed to Sunrise Cemetery for an 11 a.m. committal service with military honors.
