Sarah Letitia Fees was born near Burlington, Des Moines County, Iowa, July 2, 1843, and died June 15, 1929 being 85 years, 11 months and 13 days old. She was the oldest child of Henry and Elizabeth Fees. On August 27, 1865 she was united in marriage to James King Winfrey, a native Kentuckian, who survives her. To this union were born five sons and four daughters who have already passed to the Great Beyond. Of those living, Thomas Henry, Frank Milton, Mrs. Cassie Winegar and Robert live in or near Des Moines, Clara Bell Ridgeway near Runnels and Minnie Miller, an adopted daughter, near Adelphi. She leaves many grandchildren and several great grandchildren, nearly all of whom live in Polk county. In early womanhood she accepted Christ and ever lived a consistent Christian life. She was active in the Grange, in its day, and later in the Rebekah Lodge.
