Hugh Reed Brenneman, one of the older and best known citizens of Clarion county, died at Strattonville, (sic) Thursday, Jan. 11, 1917, aged 79 years. He was a veteran of the civil war and had a fine military record. He was twice married and is survived by his second wife and several children, among them are Mrs. Ernest Bowman of this place, and Herbert of Mayburg, this county.

Hugh enlisted as a Sergent in Company H of the 8th Reserve Pennsylvania Infantry(37th Pennsylvania Volunteers)during the Civil War
He enlisted on April 30, 1861 & was promoted from Sgt. to 2nd Lieutenant July 1, '63
He mustered out with company May 24, 1864
