Sergt Neil Champoux is Reported Killed
Relatives Received Word from Marine Corps - Had Been in the Pacific Area
Northampton, Oct 18 - Sergt Neil George Champoux, son of George E Champoux of this city and Mrs Ella Fifield of Canandaigua, NY, has been reported killed in action with the United States marine corps.
A communication signed by Lieut-Gen T Holcomb, commandant of the marines, advised relatives of the death and asked that the place of the action be withheld.
Sergt Champoux graduated from Northampton high school in 1937 and had been drum major of the Hawley drum corps while in grammar school. He was a member of St Mary's church.
He enlisted in the marines in October 1939, and received his training in Puerto Rico. In July he was elected to be a member of the marine raiders and had been in the south Pacific area. He leaves, besides his parents, two sisters, Mrs James O'Neil of Waverly, NY, and Mrs William Coe of Canandaigua, and his grandmother, Mrs Harriet Powers, also of Canandaigua.
