Otto Nelson
Otto C. Nelson, 84, of Libby, died on April 15, 2004, at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane.
He was born on Oct. 3, 1919, at Frog Creek Township, Wis., on of the 12 children of Otto and Marie Nelson, and was raised in the Minong, Wis., area.
Otto served as a tank operator with the U.S. Army during World War II. He saw action in the European Theater and was a recipient of a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.
He married Margaret Bickell Visger on July 9, 1943, at Duluth, Minn.
They moved from Minong to Libby in 1964 and Otto was employed as a lumber grader for J. Neils Lumber Company and St. Regis until his retirement in 1982.
He enjoyed woodworking, making small household and craft items.
Otto was a member of the Church of the Nazarene.
He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret in 1990, and was also preceded in death by children Peggy Johnson and Buckey Visger; son-in-law Lloyd Elliot, five brothers, two sisters and three grandchildren.
Survivors include his children Beverly Johnson and her husband John, Kalispell; Lawrence Visger and his wife Edna, Libby; Mickey Visger and his wife Edna, Moundsview, Minn.; Patsy Elliott, Libby; daughter-in-law Violet Visger; four siblings, Hilda Amundson, Chetek, Wis.; Paul Nelson, Minong, Wis.; Morris Nelson and his wife Viola, Wausau, Wis.; Esther Olson and her husband Robert in Wisconsin, 20 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Jerry Bell officiating.
Interment with military honors followed at the City of Libby Cemetery.
Arrangements were under care of the Nelson & Vial Funeral Home where visitation was from 1-8 p.m. Sunday and until noon on Monday.
