Marie-Elisabette was the daughter of Leopold-Joseph, Duke of Lorraine and his wife Princess Marie-Elisabette of Orleans.

On 1 April 1737, she became the seond wife of King Carlo Emmanuel III of Sardinia. They were the parents of Carlo Francesco, Maria-Vittoria, and Benedetto. Sadly, she died of complications of childbirth with her third child.
