New Market, Dec. 26 - Rebecca Hinkle, who resided three miles south of this place in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Alice Johnson, died Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock at the age of 88 years. The death came as the result of the infirmities of old age, the first signs of which came into evidence about five years ago. The deceased was born in this county Feb. 28, 1831; was married to William Hinkle April 20, 1855, and was a charter member of the Baptist Church of this place. She is survived by three children, James W. Hinkle, of near here; Mrs. Zenia Wray, New Market, and Ms. Theo Johnson; three sisters, Mrs. Nancy Watkins, Knoxville, Tenn.; Mrs. Daniel Easley and Mrs. Mary F. Rice, both of Crawfordsville, and one brother, Will Glenn, of Waveland. The funeral was held this morning at 11 o'clock in the Baptist church of this place, under the charge of Rev. Caldwell, and burial was made at Freedom cemetery.
