Nancy E. Allen was born October 15, 1832; died June 27, 1909; aged 76 Years 8 months 12 days. She was married to John W. Hanna in the year 1854. She united with the Freedom Baptist Church in the year 1853 and together with her husband did much to support and build up the church. Though situated quite a distance from the church they were very regular in attendance and faithful to the church until the year 1873, when she with 69 others were lettered out and organized the Browns Valley Baptist Church of which she was an earnest, faithful and efficient member until death. It is often said that a eulogy on the dead is useless and inappropriate. From the fact that in many cases those that read or hear it know more about the reason for eulogies than the speaker or writer. But this is not true in this case for Aunt Nannie as she was familiarly known was best known to those associated with her and Uncle John as this writer was in church work for 20 odd years. I well remember that at one time I was treasurer of the church and Aunt Nanie was never delinquent on my book and was always very solicitous. And when there was a demand for means her and Uncle John's pocketbooks flew wide open. Space would not permit me to undertake to recount her many good deeds of love and charity as you well know them. The deceased was a member of a family of 7 children. The oldest, William Warren Allen died when two years old. Martha J. Allen died at age 20 years. Mary Ann Davis, Charles E. Allen and Matilda E. Foster have preceded her to the spirit land. Sarah E. Buser, the only surviving member of the family is left with many relatives and friends to mourn their loss. But their loss is her again. She has only left the church militant to join the church triumphant.
