Letha Lewis, 89, of Lubbock, formerly of Big Spring, died on Tuesday, September 29, 2009, in a Lubbock nursing home. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, October 5, 2009 at the Trinity Memorial Park with Rev. Keith Weaver, pastor of East 4th Street Baptist Church, officiating.

She was born on August 14, 1920, in Humble, Texas and married Chesley Martell "Bud" Lewis on December 25, 1938 in Overton, Texas. He preceded her in death on July 4, 1998.

Letha was a fine artist, who excelled in painting and enjoyed playing the organ. Her talent has been recognized numerous times, in the many awards her paintings won at the local and regional level. She was a devoted wife to Martell for 60 years, a loving mother of three children and proud grandmother and great grandmother. She also enjoyed cooking, traveling the country in "grandparents camper" and gardening.

Survivors include a daughter, Peggy Smith of Tucson, Arizona; a son, Jerry Lewis of Killeen; seven grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Cundiff; two brothers, Billy Villyard and Clayton Villyard and two sisters, Mavis Nodine and Arlene Fuller.

The family suggests memorials be made to the donor's favorite charity.
