Even tho her tombstone lists her year of birth as 1880 it appears that the year 1880 is incorrect. I say that because she was recorded on the 1880 census record for her parents, which was conducted in June of 1880 (2 months before August of 1880) and she was listed on that June 1880 census as a ten month old child, meaning she was actually born in August of 1879, not August of 1880.

"Essie" was the daughter of Henry Sterling Bennett and Sarah Jane Pratt. She was, in fact, their first born child, born in August of 1879, and they were married in July of 1878. "Essie" spent her entire life in Randolph County, Arkansas, and it was there that she was married to William Camuel Smith, in 1908.

Together, "Essie" and W.C. Smith raised three boys and one girl. Namely Drew Chester Smith, Cam Lester Smith, Oscar Esmon Smith and Sadie Ann Smith.
