Robert D. Van Vors, 71, of 2726 Jackson St., died at 3:36 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Parker Knoll officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road.
He was born on March 28, 1938, in Dubuque, son of Edgar and Ella (Rink) Van Vors. He married Cynthia Shekleton on Jan. 23, 1970, in Galena, Ill.; she preceded him in death on Dec. 7, 2006.
Robert worked for John Deere Dubuque Works for 34 years and also was a projector operator for many of the Dubuque movie theaters from 1957 to 1987.
He was a member of the UAW Local 94, and Local 103 of the Motion Picture Operators Association.
In retirement, he loved spending time with his family and enjoyed NASCAR racing.
Surviving are his four children, Bob (Lisa) Van Vors, of Des Moines, Mike Van Vors, Lisa (Tom) Fitzgerald and Jim (Nicole) Van Vors, all of Dubuque; four grandchildren, Bailey, Payton, Miranda and David; and a sister, Rosemary (Eldon) Hutchins, of Dubuque.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Walter, Clarence and Harold.
