Olympic Games Gold Medalist Athlete. He served in the United States Army during World War I as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Aviation Section, Signals Reserve Corps. After the war, he started amateur competition rowing, joining the Bachelor's Barge Club in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. By 1924 he had received numerous junior and senior national titles in single and double sculls. Selected as a member of the 1924 United States Olympic Rowing Team for the Summer Games held in Paris, France, he won the Silver Medal in the Single Sculls, losing the Gold to Great Britain rowing great Jack Beresford. He would return to the Summer Olympic Games in 1932 when the competition was held in Los Angeles, California. There, with teammate Kenneth Myers, he won the Gold Medal in the Men's Double Sculls. After his rowing career, he became a real estate broker in Philadelphia, where he passed away in 1969.
