On April 3, 1865 he was promoted to Major, but was never mustered in at that rank, and he was still a Captain when he was mustered out of service with his regiment on June 9, 1865 at Hart's Island, New York City, New York. On April 9, 1865 he was brevetted Major, US Volunteers.
Originally interred in the now defunct Lafayette Cemetery, he was re-interred in Laurel Hill Cemetery on April 28, 1899.
