Marvin E. Greene, 93, of #3 Kingsley Drive, died at 2:40 P.M. October 2, 2009 at Ridgewood Nursing and Rehab Center.

He was born June 22, 1916 in Ottumwa to James and Bertha Cohenour Greene. He married Margaret Gruwell August 24, 1946.

A graduate of Ottumwa High School, he served in the Army during World War II in the European Theatre.

He worked for 35 years at John Deere Ottumwa Works, retiring in 1981.

He was a member of Northgate Alliance Church, a life member of Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and had served as treasurer of Community First Credit Union, formerly John Deere Credit Union, for 41 years.

Surviving is his wife, Margaret; a son, Stephen Greene of Ottumwa; a daughter, Debra (Lance) O'Brien of San Antonio, TX; four grandchildren, Michael (Kari Cappell) Greene, Trevor Greene, Shannon (Ken) Murphy, Kristin (Rex) Bair; 6 great grandchildren; 3 step great grandchildren; a brother Charles (Joan) Greene of Ottumwa; a sister, Junella Miller of Ottumwa.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Orville, Frank, Arthur and Rev. Merle Greene.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Lowell Simmons officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.
