Actor. He began his acting career on the East Coast, appearing on Broadway in 1936 opposite Olivia de Havilland and Leslie Howard in "Hamlet." He enlisted from Hartford, Connecticut on June 2, 1941 and was promoted to Staff Sergeant before leaving the Army. He made 49 appearances on television and the big screen; first in "Man Against Crime" and "The Doll Bandit" (1953) and lastly in "Lincoln, The Unwilling Warrior" (1974). On television, he made guest appearances in such series as "Perry Mason" (1958 to 1966), "The Untouchables" (1961 to 1962), "Bonanza (1960 to 1965), and "Burke's Law" (1965). Uncredited appearances on the big screen included character parts in "North by Northwest" (1959), "Young Dillinger" (1965), "Blackbeard's Ghost" (1968), and "The Green Berets" (1968). He also starred in "The Crowded Sky" (1960), "Hot Rods to Hell" (1967), his most well-known movie "Bullitt" (1968) and "The Outfit" (1973).
