Pfc. Brandon A. Owens 21, of Memphis, Tenn.; enlisted in the United States Armed Forces in 2008 and was stationed in Afghanistan. He was a member of First Baptist Broad, a 2007 graduate of Wooddale High School, and was a basketball player. He leaves his parents, Lynda and Eric Owens, Sr; his brother Eric Owens, Jr; grandparents Marion Jackson, Ruby Minor, Michael Owens, Sr.; three aunts and eight uncles. Brandon was assigned to the 118th Military Police Company, 503rd Military Police Battalion, 16th Military Police Brigade, XVIII Airborne Corps, Fort Bragg, N.C.; died Oct. 2 in Wardak province, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit using small-arms fire. Also killed was Sgt. Aaron M. Smith.
