LEOMINSTER, May 23—Eugene A. Bates, 74, died at his home, 175 Lincoln street, yesterday afternoon. He was born in Cavendish, Vt., and lived in Leominster for 60 years. At one time he was engaged in the real estate business in this city.
Mr. Bates is survived by his wife, Mrs. Emma (Allen) Bates; five daughters, Mrs. Gladys Wall and Mrs. Marion A. Maurice, both of Shrewsbury; Mrs. Irene E. Powers of Chicago, Mrs. Ethel A. Coe of Riverside, Cal., and Miss Mildred R. Bates of East Orange, N. J.; two sons, Clarence of Leominster and Alfred E. Bates of Bristol, Conn., and 17 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at the Haws Memorial chapel Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock Rev. Ray E. Butterfield of the Congregational Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. Calling hours at the Wright funeral home are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 today and tomorrow.
