1919 ~ 2003
Lawrence Earl Day, of Roy, Utah; died November 17, 2003 of causes incident to old age and Diabetes.
He was born January 22, 1919 in Highland, Utah County; the fifth of 14 children, to Orville Cox Day and Otes Clysta Strasburg.
He married Lillie Buhler in the Salt Lake Temple, March 2, 1942. They had five children before she died in 1958 of cancer.
He served in the U.S. Air Force in World War II for four years as an airplane mechanic on the B-29s. He graduated from BYU in 1950 and taught at Wasatch High School in Heber City, West High School in Salt Lake, BYU, then 21 years at the State Industrial School in Ogden; 32 years in all. He received his Master's degree in counseling psychology at Utah State University in 1972.
He married Evelyn Mildred Applonie of Riverdale in the Salt Lake Temple, May 29, 1959. They had three children. Evelyn died of cancer, November 18, 1998. All of their six sons filled honorable missions for the LDS church, and all of their eight children went to college.
Mr. Day's church service included choir leader, ward chorister (at age 18), four stake missions, nine years on the Roy West Stake High Council, High Priest Group Leader, Ogden Temple worker, and European family extraction worker.
He has authored several books, mostly of poetry and personal history. He loved the Holy Scriptures and enjoyed quoting them often.
He is survived by Martha Lunt of Whittier, CA; Earl Day of Nampa, ID; Sterling Day of West Valley; Vaughn Day of Layton; Annette Day of West Jordan; Bruce Day of Clinton; and Craig Day of North Logan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Lewis, Melvin and Walter; sisters Elva and Fern; and son Alma. He has 37 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren - a total of 69 descendents, all of whom he loved dearly.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 22, 2003 at 1 p.m. at the Roy 14th Ward, 5850 South 2575 West. Friends may call on Friday at Myers Mortuary in Roy, 5865 South 1900 West from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Sat. at the church from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to services.
Interment will be at the American Fork Cemetery at 4:30 p.m.
