He was a 1943 graduate of Tipton High School, and was a veteran of WWII, having served in the Eighth Air Force. He was a Staff-Sergeant, and was stationed in England. He was in the 96th Bomb group, the 337th Bomb Squadron, and was an enlisted Bombardier on a B-17.
He was a member of the Goldsmith United Methodist Church where he had served as a Trustee. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Tipton for more than fifty years, where he had been Worshipful Master in 1957. He was also a fifty-year member of Chapter, Counsel and Commandery. He had served as head of all four bodies and received his York Cross of Honor in 1961. He was a member of the American Legion in Tipton, the National Rifle Association and the Tipton County Historical Society.
He had retired from Chrysler Corporation in October, 1989, after 37 years of service. He retired as a supervisor in the Cutter Grind Department.
He is survived by his wife and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
His funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 5 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery, Tipton with military honors. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
