EVANSDALE - Pearl Katherine Thorp Dewater, 86, of Evansdale, died Wednesday, Sept. 23, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, of natural causes.

She was born March 7, 1923, in Arlington, daughter of Oscar and Lucille McMillan Thorp. She married Keith C. Dewater on Dec. 6, 1941, in Waterloo. He died Feb. 22, 1986.

Mrs. Dewater graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1941. She was a homemaker and active with the PTA. In 1975 she became a cook at Bunger Middle School, retiring in 1988. She went to work at McDonald's in Cedar Falls, retiring after five years, then again went to work at the McDonald's in Elk Run Heights for another two years. She volunteered at her church cleaning and overseeing funeral luncheons, and was active with the ladies guild. She was a member of First Reformed Church and TOPS, both in Evansdale.

Survived by: four sons, Charles (Linda) of Michigan, James (Nancy) of Florida, Richard of Elk Run Heights and Gary (Kathy) of Waterloo; three daughters, Kathy (Don) Stone of Waterloo, Ann (Gary) Laue of Arizona and Cheryl (Pat) Helgeson of Minnesota; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Maxine Kiewiet of Waterloo, Shirley Schroeder of Elk Run Heights, Elberta (Loran) Freeman of Oklahoma and Sharon (Dan) Kuhlman of Sumner.

Preceded in death by: a son, Terry D.; four brothers, Robert, Kenneth, Kendrick and Larry Thorp; and a sister, Charlotte Ashton.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at First Reformed Church, Evansdale, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo. Public visitation from 2 to 4 p.m. today at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, Waterloo, and for an hour before services Monday at the church.

Pearl was an organizer. Her family and her church were her passions. She had a love of sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes, enjoyed reading, puzzle books and watching soap operas. She had been keeping a personal journal for the past several years.

Parents of the couple are Mrs. Pearl Dewater of 1030 Brookside Ave. and the late Keith Dewater, and Herman L. Laul of Elma.
The bride-elect is employed at Cigna Healthplan of Arizona, and her fiance is employed in Phoenix.
A Dec. 27 wedding is being planned for 3 p.m. at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Phoenix, Ariz.
