Decatur Daily Review 12/11/1933
Mrs. Eugenie M. Bacon, Decatur "grand old lady" died Sunday in her home at the age of 80. She had been bedfast for several months. She suffered from effects from hardening of the arteries, throat complications and old age. She had been in frail health for many years but used her strength to continue numerous outside activities until a shock sustained in a fall several month ago confined her to her bed.
Following her husbands death in 1911 she withdrew for a time from civic activities but when her heath showed improvement she returned to some of her activities. Long before women received the ballot she was a member of the state and local suffrage associations. She believed in women and little children and has given her life freely to whatever hastened to help any measure of progress for them.
She was a strong Republican. Like other women she was more interested in the personality of the candidate than party principle. While she was a member of the W.C.T.U. she was not puritanical. She did not believe in women smoking.
She will be buried in Greenwood cemetery where her husband the late George R. Bacon and her son, George Richard Bacon lay. The funeral will take place at the First Congregational church Tuesday.
