Paul Richard Cook, 81, entered eternal rest and peace on Wednesday, September 30, 2009, while at home with his family who loved him dearly.
Paul was born on April 14, 1928, in Pandora, Ohio to the late Roy Maxwell and Lydia May (Sutter) Cook.
He married Margaret Ann Roberts on January 28, 1951. She survives him, along with their children: Sue (Karl) Best of Arlington, OH; Shirlee Jo (David) Thomas of Findlay, OH; Beth (Kurt) Hanson of Dublin, OH; and Jody Brickner of Findlay, OH. Paul was blessed with eleven grandchildren: Scott (Christine) Best, Jeremy Best, Kelly (Susan) Best, Andrew (Kristen) Gephart, Levi Gephart, Bethany Gephart, Logan Thomas, Elise Hanson, Jolie Hanson, John Hanson and Maxwell Brickner; and five great-grandchildren: Faith and Ethan Best, Gabriella and Marissa Gephart, and Jacob Best. Paul is also survived by a sister, Sally (Charles) Bright and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters: Roy Cook, Robert Cook, Daniel Cook, Louise Niswander, and Justine Thorp.
A special part of Paul's life was his extended family members, including five step-grandchildren: Allison Ashcraft, Christopher Thomas, Patrick Thomas, Abigail Brown, and Alexander Brickner; and several exchange students to whom Paul was a surrogate father and grandfather: Marcela (Argentina), Nas (Thailand), Riri (Indonesia), NuNu (Indonesia), Eugenia (Spain), Steven (Australia), and Minna (Finland).
Paul was a pharmacist and worked in the Findlay area his entire professional life. His interest in pharmacy began as a teenager when he took a job at the Pandora Drug Store. He started school at Findlay College, later transferring to Ohio Northern University. As a pharmacy intern he was employed by Gallaher's in Findlay, and it was there that he met Margaret. Paul graduated from Ohio Northern and earned his license in 1951. In the early 1960s he started working at B&G Drugstore, eventually became a partner, and later, the sole owner. He also started a drug store in McComb and retired from both in 1997. One of his several legacies is that two of his daughters and a grandson are currently working as pharmacists. Paul was proud that his girls and adult grandchildren all graduated from college.
Paul was a faithful member of Howard United Methodist Church for 55 years, serving in several capacities. He will be remembered by many-family, friends, customers and business associates alike-for his many kind deeds, never expecting or wanting anything in return.
Paul had many wonderful attributes. He will best be remembered as being a man who genuinely loved his family fiercely. He will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be held from 2:00-5:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2009, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay. A private graveside service will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery. A memorial service celebrating Paul's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2009, at Howard United Methodist Church, with Pastor Jason Wellman officiating.
