Robert L. "Bob" Marek Sr., 81, of Chippewa Falls died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Sept. 2, 1928, in Bloomer to Richard and Marion (Hansen) Marek. He was raised in Bloomer, where he received his high school diploma. Bob served in the U.S. Army during the occupation of Japan. He then returned to Bloomer and moved to Chippewa Falls in 1948. Bob married Lucille Bauer April 24, 1948, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Bloomer. In 1951, they moved to Lake Wissota. He was employed at Tschopp and Durch and then at Northern Center for over 35 years, retiring as a supervisor. He was a member of the Chippewa Falls VFW Post and the American Legion.
Survivors include three daughters, Katherine (Dennis) Steinke of Eau Claire, Diane Marek-Murkley of Chippewa Falls, Linda (Gary) Wilson-Gorski of Wausau; a son, Robert (Nancy) Marek Jr. of Chippewa Falls; two sisters, Naomi (Marlyn) Much of Ladysmith and Carol (Paul) Hable of Bloomer; two brothers, Ronald and Douglas Marek, both of Chippewa Falls; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Kathleen Marek; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lucille, on April 20, 1990; a son, Christopher Marek; a brother, Richard Marek; two sons-in-law, Dick Murkley and Kenneth Wilson.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel in Chippewa Falls, with Monsignor Edmund Klimek officiating. Interment with military honors will be in North Catholic Cemetery in Bloomer.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral chapel.
Bob was well-known for his sense of humor, quick wit, his tender heart and great smile. He loved to hunt, fish and play cribbage. Bob will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
