JAMES D. DeMARR
Army Colonel
James D. DeMarr, 83, a retired Army Colonel who also had sold real estate and worked for an electronics concern here, died Oct. 16 at Veterans Affairs Hospital in Dublin, Ga. He had Alzheimer's disease.
Col. DeMarr, a native of Hyattsville, lived in Arlington before entering the hospital about five years ago.
He was a graduate of McKinley Technical High School and a 1930 electrical engineering graduate of the University of Maryland. He entered the Army in 1930 and served in the Signal Corps until retiring from active duty in 1963. He then worked for the Technical Material Corp. in Alexandria, where he became a vice president, until retiring from that company in 1967. He then sold real estate for Bob Duncan real estate in Alexandria until retiring for the last time in 1971.
During his Army career, Col. DeMarr worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps before World War II. During the war, he worked on radar installation and operations in the Panama Canal Zone. His postwar assignments took him to the Far East. He served in Korea during the Korean War. His last assignment was as signal officer of the 1st Army in New York.
His decorations included the Bronze Star and the Army Commendation Medal.
