Dr. Olan Phillip Burt,80, of Upper Arlington, died Friday, May 19, 1995, at Riverside Methodist Hospital.
He was a retired Obstetrician/Gynecologist, who delivered more than 13,000 babies at White Cross and Riverside hospitals in his professional career.
He graduated from Allensville High School in Vinton County (1932), from Ohio State University (1936) and from OSU Medical School (1939). Dr. Burt was a World War II veteran, serving as a Captain in the USAAF 1944-1946.
He was a member of Columbus OB-GYN Society, Columbus Academy of Medicine, OSMA, AMA, Theta Kappa Psi Medical Fraternity, The Columbus Club, River Ridge Riding Club, one of the founders of House of Hope 1956-57, Board of Directors 1956-65.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Lou; daughter, Deborah Kitson (Kitsy) Burt, Worthington; daughters and sons-in-law, Susan Jane and Michael Fitzgerald, Wexford, Pa., Mary Jo and Steve Shaffer, Upper Arlington, Margaret R. (Peggy) and Dennis Haire, Evansville, Ind.; granddaughters, Mollie Fitzgerald Larsen and Maggie Haire; grandsons, Michael E. Fitzgerald, David Andrew Shaffer, Scott Shaffer and David Haire; great-granddaughter, Abigail Susan (Abby) Larsen; great-grandson, Drew Edward Shaffer; stepsons, John C. (Renee) Niple, San Jose, Calif., Edward R. (Marga) Niple, Acton, Mass., Thomas K. (Rosemary) Niple, Vinton County, Craig K. Niple, Waukesha, Wi.; sisters, Marie (Heber) Stevens, Londonderry, Majel (George) Pleasant, Marysville.
He was preceded in death by son, David Phillip Burt, 1966.
Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Schoedinger Northwest Chapel, 1740 Zollinger Road, Columbus, Ohio 43221 and from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Monday at Upper Arlington Lutheran Church, 2300 Lytham Road, where services will be held 12:30 p.m. Monday with the Rev. John C. Stolzenbach officiating. Private interment will be in Londonderry Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to the Olan P. Burt, M.D. Memorial Fund, c/o K. Michael Taylor, 1328 Dublin Road, Columbus, Ohio 43215. Funds will be used to benefit mothers and infants through the Elizabeth Blackwell Center.
