Commander Kemper was a veteran of the Vietnam War with 256 missions before being killed March 3, 1971 in a flight training accident near the Naval Air Station, McCain Field, Meridian, Miss.

His relative, Sharon Kemper Hackworth, said, “Bobby was my hero and our family was so proud of him. He was quite a bit older than me but I can always remember how he was such a great guy and loved his family. My dad hired him to work at the grocery store on Main Street when he was a young person… My dad really grieved when he died in a training accident after all of the missions in Vietnam. It was such a tragedy. He left a beautiful wife and three daughters, one is named Sharon.”
