Born in Hälstad, Älvsborg, Västra Götaland, Sweden the son of Lars Svensson Brunn and Maria Larsdotter. From May 8, 1828 he served 30 years in the Älvsborgs regemente of the Swedish Army. In 1829 he married Anica B. Andersdotter, and together they had ten children. In 1866 he emigrated to America with his wife and two youngest children on a ship that had an outbreak of cholera. They were quarantined in New York Harbor for two months before making their way to Goodhue County Minnesota where some of their older children had settled.
