Delbert Ellsworth Rupert, 83, of Chambers Hill, Harrisburg, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2009 in the Community General Osteopathic Hospital.
Born September 9, 1926, in Allenport, PA, he was the son of the late Isaac D. and Ethel Maude (Jones) Rupert, and preceded in death by 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joyce (Miller) Rupert; daughter, Debra Kettering, her husband, Scott, of Lake Wallenpaupack; son, Timothy Rupert, of West Hanover; 3 grandchildren; and a sister, Ethel Alice Dundore, her husband, Christian, of Hershey.
He was a retired Maintenance Supervisor from Central Dauphin School District, with 28 years of service, and was a U.S. Army Veteran of WW II, serving in Okinawa and Korea from 1944 to 1946.
Delbert graduated from Juniata Valley High School, in Alexandria in class of 1948 after returning from active duty in the army.
He was a member of the Chambers Hill United Methodist Church, active in Easter Eggers, a former member of the Camp Curtin-Mitchell Memorial United Methodist Church, where he served as Trustee, Administrative Board, and usher.
He was a life member of the William P. Spyker American Legion Post 520, of Alexandria, PA, where he served as Sgt. of Arms, Vice-Commander and Commander.
He was a former coach of Chambers Hill Pirates Little League Baseball Team, and a former Scoutmaster for Troop 202 of Chambers Hill.
His hobbies were hunting, fishing, gardening, woodworking, and was an avid fan of hockey, football, and baseball.
A viewing will be held 10:00 AM Saturday followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 AM in Chambers Hill United Methodist Church, 6300 Chambers Hill Rd., Harrisburg. Burial will be in Paxtang Cemetery.
