Jim Lee Hopkins, 65, of Albia, died Sept. 30, 2009, at his residence in Albia. Jim was born Feb. 1, 1944, in Davis County, Iowa to Joseph and Nellie (Bridgeman) Hopkins. Jim grew up and attended school in Albia. After school Jim married Pat Major on April 3, 1965, at the Church of God in Albia. Jim worked construction for a few years before he started working at Midland Brickyard, where he worked for 23 years. Jim stayed active mowing yards and working on small engines. He also enjoyed NASCAR races, being outdoors, fishing and he loved spending time with his family, neighbors, and friends. Jim is survived by his wife, Pat Hopkins of Albia; his children, Terri Stewart and her husband John, Jodi Toopes and her husband John, and Alan Hopkins all of Albia; three grandchildren, Jessica Kendall of Albia, Tyson Hackett of Marshalltown and Kylie Hopkins of Albia; four great-grandchildren, Jayden, Emily, Hayden and Taylor. Jim is also survived by five brothers, Jack and Joe Hopkins both of Ottumwa, Harold Hopkins and Raymond Hopkins, both of Albia and Bill Hopkins of Mapleton; three sisters, Diane Miller, Charlene Murphy and Nancy Fabert, all of Albia and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Nellie; one son, Jimmy Lee Hopkins; two brothers, Kenny and Ronnie Hopkins; two sisters, Patty Hopkins and Mary Helen Wright and one nephew, Ronnie Fabert Jr. Visitation will be noon to 8 p.m. Friday at the Winfield Funeral Home, with the family present from 6-8 p.m.Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Winfield Funeral Home in Albia. Burial will follow services at Oak View Cemetery in Albia, concluded with a luncheon at the Eagles Club in Albia.
