OBITUARY - PATRICK W. CAREY
Patrick W. Carey, aged 80 years, died last evening at his residence, 78 Lawrence Street, after a six weeks illness. The deceased came from Ireland when a young boy and took up residence in Michigan, later in Lower Jay, Essex County, NY, coming here (Glens Falls) some ten years ago. He belonged to the Rosary and Holy Name Societies of St. Mary's Church. The survivors are his wife (Margaret), five daughters, Mrs Frank J. (Mary Ann) Kelleher, Mrs. Daniel C. (Julia) Reardon, Mrs. Daniel (Margaret) Kelleher, Misses Nancy and Catherine Carey; four sons, John T., Frank, Joseph Jr. of Glens Falls, William F. Carey of Schenectady.
A son Daniel predeceased his father in 1906 and a daughter Alice Carey Donahue in 1895. Records show that Patrick W. Carey lived in Au Sable Forks, NY possibly before moving to Franklin, Michigan in Houghton County. He is listed in the 1870 Michigan census as living with wife and children and occupation is copper refiner. Many Irish traveled to Houghton to work in the copper mines during this period. He later returned to Jay, New York according to the 1880 census. By 1900 he was living in Glens Falls, NY where he remained at 78 Lawrence St up until the time of his death.
