She was the widow of Jack L. Payne and the mother of four children, Stephen L. Payne of Milledgeville, GA, Rod Allen Payne of Monroe, LA, Suzy Payne Rabb and Lisa Payne, both of Austin, TX. She was the grandmother of Christopher Payne of Monroe, LA and Austin Rabb of Austin, TX. Ernestine was born on February 9, 1924 in West Monroe, LA to her parents, Mattie and Ernest Allen. She graduated from Ouachita High School in 1941 and later from the Monroe Business College.
Ernestine was married in 1945. Her professional career included an executive secretary position at the Palace Department Store and admission and emergency room positions at Glenwood Hospital. She was a long-time member of McGuire United Methodist Church in West Monroe, LA, and was active in the Mary Martha Circle and Fellowship Group.
Ernestine's life was filled with close friendships and loving family connections. In later years, she served as a member of the Glenwood Volunteers and several other local organizations.
A memorial service is planned for 11:00AM on Friday, June 9, 2006 at McGuire United Methodist Church with a graveside service at 8:00PM at New Hope Cemetery in Dodson, LA. Her nephew, Robert Leach, will be leading this service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Hudson Interdenominational Camp, care of Mrs. Laura Bonnette, 1921 California, Ruston, LA 71270.
