Born in Kentucky; lived in Calcasieu & Rapides Parish, Louisiana then moved to Fort Worth, Tarrant County with his wife, Zona Ashmore and adopted daughter, Agnes Inez Steadman, daughter of John Steadman and Mary Ashmore Steadman. According to family legend, Alexander Campbell was a riverboat gambler before finding his wife, Zona Ashmore Campbell-Tatum. Alexander and Zona raised her niece, Agnes Inez Steadman as their own, even sending her to school, her marriage to my father and her children's birth certificates showing her maiden anme as Campbell. We didn't find out until about 1970, when we were searching for proof of Agnes' birth to apply for Social Security that she was never officially adopted by Alexander and Zona. We made a trip to Oakdale, Louisiana where Agnes was born and found a lady named Mrs. Devore who was present at Agnes' birth and we secured a statement from her for SS.
