Pearl E. Kaufman, 88, of Fort Dodge, died Tuesday, September 29, 2009, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home, in the loving care of her family and Trinity Hospice.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 1, at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. J. Faulkner Martin officiating. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery. The visitation is today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Memorials may be directed to the Trinity Health Foundation in care of the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home Play Set Fund.

Pearl is survived by her son Dwight (Cindy) Kaufman, Fort Dodge; granddaughters, Christy (Mike) Welch, Denison; Julie (John) Bantz, Norwalk; Laurie (John) Butz, Indianola; four great-grandsons, Cameron, Nic, Tom and Jacob, and a great-granddaughter Jordyn; her sisters, Carol (Jim) Brandt, and Ruth Ball, all of Duncombe; three sisters-in-law, Rosemary Nelson, Fort Dodge; Annie Royster and Helen Royster, both of Duncombe. Pearl was preceded in death by her husband Richard, her parents, two brothers and three sisters.

Pearl Evelyn Royster, the daughter of Dwight and Lulu (Schoonover) Royster, was born March 16, 1921, on a farm in Webster County. She attended country school through the eighth grade. On August 15, 1943, Pearl was united in marriage to Richard Kaufman at the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Dodge. The couple farmed east of Fort Dodge for 36 years before retiring to Fort Dodge in 1979. Pearl then worked as a cook at South Junior High.

Pearl was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for 65 years where she proudly served as leader of the First Presbyterian Quilters for many years. She was presented an Honorary Life Membership into the Presbyterian Women on December 19, 1996. Pearl enjoyed traveling, quilting, baking and playing cards. She was blessed to love and be loved by many wonderful neighbors. Most importantly, Pearl enjoyed spending time with her family.
