Word has been received here of the death of Richard Malines Carpenter who received his grade and high school education in Forest Grove. He made his home in Creswell but he was buried in Forest View Cemetery on November 17. He died November 12 at a Eugene hospital at the age of 54.

He was born May 9, 1917 in Los Angeles. He owned and operated the Creswell Sand and Gravel Co. for more than 20 years. He was a member of Creswell Presbyterian Church, fire department, Lodge No. 112 AF&AM, Order of Eastern Star #96, Lions Club and BPOE, #1904.

He is survived by the widow Betty of Creswell; one son William of Fountain Valley, California; one daughter Nancy Chastain and a granddaughter Amy of Golden, Colorado. Other survivors include his mother, Mrs. Iva Carpenter and three sisters Luana Myers and Beth Hurlocker of Reedsport and Janet Gannatal of Ventura, California.
