Bertie was born the daughter of Samuel M. Smith and Amelia Emeline Lackey. Records show her parents were married 1857 in Alabama and then relocated to Milam Co., where their children were raised.
Thomas Marion Parkinson and Bertie Foster Smith were married on March 13, 1889, in Kaufman Co., Texas.
They farmed and began their family. The couple had eleven known children.
Bertie passed away just a few days after the birth and death of her infant son (January 26, 1910). She is buried in a plot with her three sons who died in infancy.
