The airplane was battle damaged by German
flak over France, and loss control, veered up
and struck the underside of B-17 #42-29709.
Chester and two other crew members were
Killed In Action. Eight parachuted out. Six
were captured and became POWs. Two evaded
capture. One crew member parachuted out of
42-29709, and was taken POW. That ship
successfully returned to base in Framlingham,
England.
